He’s not the hero we want, he’s the mirror we deserve.

Everyone. Every pundit, pollster, politician, person, place and thing has been wondering how in the fuck Donald Trump got elected as president. When in fact, it’s actually quite obvious why “The Donald” won.

Donald Trump is everything that America has stood for since its inception. He’s a wealthy in a nation that has made wealth inseparable from personal greatness. He’s white in a nation that has a long history of oppressing the few in an attempt to protect whites from the “others.” He exploits racial anxiety to further divide America’s permanent underclass, thus making them conquerable. He says sensational things to get attention from a corporate media completely based around selling sensationalism. Donald Trump is more American than apple pie. He’s every single contradiction that our nation has produced all in one. Donald Trump isn’t a president, he’s a mirror reflecting us.

Trump is our history and unfortunately our future. People often ask, “How can America go from Obama to Trump?” Obama was a symbol, not a revolutionary act. America electing Obama is equivalent to a 15 year old discovering Rage Against the Machine records and Che Guevara T-shirts. It may make you feel good, but it’s another product manufactured by the same people you’re protesting. No matter the ideological reasoning, participation in a corrupt system is participation in a corrupt system. Until the Democrats start offering some sort of tangible change that isn’t a symbolic revolution, completely curated and sterilized by corporate interests, we’re going to be living in an age of Trumpublicans for a long time…
